Clooney

Every once in awhile, a movie comes along that I'm just itching to see and this is one of them. I saw the trailer for "Good Night, And Good Luck" when George Clooney was on the Daily Show promoting it and I was hooked. Here's the synopsis from its website:
"Good Night, And Good Luck." takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950's America. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Permanent Sub-committee on Investigations (Government Operations Committee). With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff - headed by his producer Fred Friendly and Joe Wershba in the CBS newsroom - defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist 'witch-hunts'. A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on and their tenacity will prove historic and monumental.
Check out the full trailer here. The movie topic reminds of the time period we are currently in, where the government has tried to reduce our personal freedoms and liberties in the hope of erradicating communism, oops I mean terrorism and to increasing our safety. Clooney made the same type of remarks during the interview with Jon Stewart. Check it out, I definitely will be. It'll be at theatres starting October 7th.

I actually saw a documentary on the History channel regarding the actual feud. It wasn't about McCarthyism or communism or anything like that. It was simply about the feud between Ed Murrow and Joe McCarthy, and half of the program was archived footage of the 3 interviews Murrow had on air with McCarthy. Let me tell you... they are hilarious. Murrow basically rips McCarthy a new bunghole on (at the time) live TV on each occassion... and McCarthy fumbles over his arguments basically resorting to the 3rd grader-esque retorts of "Well.. you..you're a big fat doody head." If they are still airing it (I watched it probably 6+ months ago), I would highly recommend it.

By the way, I also saw the John Stewart interview, and I hope it lives up to what it's trying to accomplish. I kind of felt like "been there/done that" after watching the actual footage in that documentary, but for someone who hasn't seen it or doesn't know about the public clash they had it should be interesting.

Also, if memory serves me correctly, I think Clooney said in that interview that they didn't hire an actor for McCarthy's role, they used actual footage of him... which is sweet if that's the case. Dave can you confirm?

The media is not biased and reports the truth regardless of government influence.
