Football

Last week's riveting win over Ohio State and this week's heartbreaking loss to Michigan helped me realize a truth today. I am so privileged to be attending a school with a top tier football team. Attending a school such as Penn State, I'm welcomed into a cult-like group devoted to their football team. Win or lose, we pray to the gods for our warriors to come out champions. The wins are epic while the losses silence us for days but regardless, the entertainment value of it all is priceless.

I feel bad for students who's school doesn't have a football team. They will never understand the joy and pain that I have experienced. For instance, I wish my brother could know how it feels when you lose in the last second of the game to rival that we haven't beaten for seven years. Sadly, he'll only experience college football second hand. Sure, he follows the teams of his two brothers (Penn State and Michigan State) and he roots for the University of Michigan but its not the same.

Much like my father, my brother is happy when Michigan wins a game but there's a disconnect when they lose. Its easily written off because there is no tie that bonds like the one a student has. When they win, his joy can't compare to mine. It doesn't make him want to run out into the streets screaming. He'll never be brought to tears over a game.

This is why I feel so privileged to attend Penn State. I have been instilled with a passion and loyalty that cannot be broken no matter how many losses or where I live. This is why professional football will never match college football.

Hatred

I've rounded up the top five teams in College Football that I hate the most. Please feel free to comment about what teams you hate the most.
    5. Nebraska
You stole our championship in 1994. You let Tommy Lee attend your school. You're in the state of Nebraska. Your mascot husks corn, wow I'm scared. He's just slightly more fierce than the Buckeye. Thankfully, the General Assembly of Pennsylvania unanimously passed a symbolic proclamation, which was signed by Governor Tom Ridge, declaring Penn State the 1994 college football national champions. Husk this you stupid Cornhuskers.

    4. Pittsburgh
I attend Penn State, so this should be self explanatory. Any team that has a fight song attacking another school (P-E-N-N S-T SUCKS) is lame. Ok, I realize that they finally got rid of that portion of the song but still, you guys are lame. Whats even lamer is that they used the cheer even when not playing Penn State. You guys have a serious inferiority complex, please seek psychiatric help. Oh and by the way, great job losing to Ohio and Rutgers. You were ranked last year and you turn around lose to these two pathetic teams. Lame.

    3. Florida State
You are always ranked in the top 25, no matter what happens, even though you're in the ACC. Must be tough beating Maryland, Clemson, Duke, UNC, and Wake Forest. Secondly, I hate Bobby Bowden. I hate your hats that you wear. I hate your redneck school. I hate your accent. I hate your crooked program. I especially hate your ex-con players. While we're at, I hate Tommy Bowden, Terry Bowden, and Jeff Bowden too. Lastly, your 31 wins at Howard College, now Samford University, shouldn't count. Its a Division I-AA school, not Division I-A. You don't hold the "All-Time Winningest Division I-A Coach" title. You can't hold a candle to Joe Paterno.

    2. Notre Dame
You are the Boston Red Sox of college football. No matter if your team is any good, the media bows down and sucks you off every year. I was so happy when Michigan State beat you this season. You are so overrated. Oh, and I loved the underlying racism aspects that the media picked up on when you fired Tyrone Willingham. He's better off without you.

    1. Michigan
I hate the squirrelfuckers. This choice is actually quite ironic. I grew up loving the University of Michigan and their football program. Although, growing up in the state of Michigan, its hard not to. Bo Schembechler was a god to me when I was young. Then I grew up. I hate this team. I hate the school even more. Its full of snobby, rich students who think they go to Harvard and will tell you how much your own school sucks at every available moment. Furthermore, every single country bumpkin in Michigan who barely graduated high school let alone went to college, is the most annoying complete shill for this team. Shut the hell up and go back to rooting for your shitty Detroit Lions. You didn't go to school there. Oh and then there's people like my dad. His college didn't have a football team when he attended, so he latched onto the bandwagon when he moved the family to Michigan. On top of that, I hate Lloyd Carr. I really have no reason to hate him but I do. I just look at him and want to vomit.

SteveO

Did any catch the episode of Too Late with Adam Carolla last week when the infamous (which means more than famous, right Chambers?) SteveO was the guest? Instead of being dry, stupid, and completely unfunny like usual, this episode was a riot to watch.

SteveO appeared on the show absolutely sloshed. He swore every other word, spat on the floor, flipped over Adam's chair and gashed open his leg when he broke the glass coffee table with his foot. Instead of the typical boring question and answer period from callers, the show had to cut to commercial in order to get security to remove SteveO from the stage.

Worse yet, according to PageSix.com, an email he wrote to show producers reads, "I just woke up with no recollection of taping Adam's show. Wow. I can't help being more proud of myself." Amazing is all I can say, but then again what can you expect from a man who stapled his asscheeks together.

Misha

Amidst searching through Google's image search for photos about Penn State for the video I made for my last post, I came across this picture. Remember it?
It's the police sketch of the rapist that attacked a woman in Fenske Lab a few years ago at Penn State, who also looked way too much like Misha. Ah, the memories.

Memento

I shot a lot of pictures this weekend; too many to be posted online. So, I decided to mess around with iPhoto and create a movie. I added all the photos, spliced in some music and made a video slideshow for everyone who was there. You can download it from one of the following two university servers. Click on either link to view the video within a web browser (it takes a long time to load) or right click on the link and select "save target as" or "save link as" (depending on what web browser you use). Enjoy.

Tailgate

The #16 Penn State vs #6 Ohio State tailgate was absolutely incredible. We tailgated for about eight hours in the cold, soggy weather but we still had a blast. Beers, burgers, hotdogs, beer pong, music, and more beer... how can you go wrong? Here are some highlights of the tailgate.

My favorite game sign

Flip cup: PSU vs OSU

Jagermeister! Jagermeister! Jagermeister!

JoePa needed a drink

Drunk guy doing a cartwheel

Neighboring tailgaters dancing to Thriller

Showing respect to the Buckeyes

Alternative to matches for a cigarette

Best way to keep your hands warm

Julie, Brian, Amanda, Me, & Steve

On top of the great tailgate we had, Penn State beat Ohio State with a score 17-10. My god the game was great. Penn State is a remarkable 6-0 now! Posluszny made us proud. He was everywhere and Tamba Hali left me speechless with his clutch sack and forced fumble. Such an amazing game.

Inebriation

Pictures from Friday night at the Sport Cafe in State College, PA. So many people came up for the Penn State - Ohio State game. I had a such a good time drinking with old friends whom I don't get to see very often.

GameDay

GameDay is coming to Penn State! After starting 5-0 for the first time since 1999, ESPN's college football preview show, GameDay, is coming to cover the #16 Penn State vs. #6 Ohio State game on October 8, 2005.

I can't wait. I've been waiting years for GameDay to come to State College and its finally coming. Damn, its fucking sweet. Here's the link for the Collegian article (thanks Steve).

I wonder what kind of sign I'm gonna make. Probably something making fun of Herbstreit for being a lame-ass Buckeye.
